Over the last year, Louisville has shown itself as a hotspot not just for women’s and men’s professional soccer but also the youth game with academies numbering 1,000-plus players.

The trend will continue over the next two weekends when the Louisville City FC and Racing academies host the Norton Children’s “Just for Kids” Fall Classic.

More than 100 teams from eight states will pass through the Lynn Family Sports Vision & Training Center as the boys division plays this Friday through Sunday and the girls follow from Oct. 15-17.

“We are looking forward to hosting the upcoming tournaments and welcoming teams outside of our region,” said academy director Mario Sanchez. “It’s a great opportunity not only for high-level competition but also for the teams to see first hand what we have. We support the youngest levels up to our professional teams, and having squads from out of the area play at our facility is a win-win for everyone.”

Each team competing this month is guaranteed at least three games. Top finishers from each age group advance to Sunday afternoon championship matches, with winners receiving trophies.

Those attending the tournament — it’s open to the public at 801 Edith Road — can also enjoy a vendor village featuring local food plus sponsor activations. In the evening, those attending the tournament will also get to see the pros in action as Louisville City FC hosts Sporting KC II on Saturday and Racing Louisville FC welcomes in the Orlando Pride on Oct. 16.

“I think it goes along with our mission and vision: to provide opportunities and pathways for players, whether those are kids from our club or other clubs,” Sanchez said. “I think this shows the community how important soccer is to all of us in the greater Louisville area.”

The Norton Children’s “Just for Kids” Fall Classic marks the second tournament hosted at the Lynn Family Sports Vision & Training Center. Last spring, the academies staged The Motz Group Turf Classic.
